Corporate Philosophy

We believe that effectively growing plants or raising animals is not simple.

We believe that the multitude of problems that exist in, not only Australian but also international agriculture, cannot be addressed by continuing higher doses of N, P and K.

Of course these elements are essential building blocks in the area of plant nutrition, but to focus on these three letters alone is just too simplistic.

The evidence is overwhelming that sustained large-scale application of chemical fertiliser has been a factor leading to soil degradation in Australia and around the world. Acidity in soils is on the increase and the structure of our soils is on the decline.

Evidence suggests that this is due to an unbalanced approach. For many years we have simply been taking too much out of our soils and not putting enough back in. Our products help to return organic matter and vital nutrients to the soil in a cost-effective manner.

Blue green algae blooms have been associated with high nitrate and phosphorus levels in runoff. Where are those nutrients coming from? We would suggest these nutrients are, at least in part, the very fertilisers that growers have paid so much for to apply to their land.

So why Fertico?

This is why:

Our organic-based range can easily be blended and spread.
Our products offer sustained release properties and resist leaching.

Our products help to rebuild the soil structure and to return balance.

We know better now, there is no longer any excuse for the continuation of what modern science has shown us is essentially unsound agronomic practice. The real question should not be can I afford to change my fertiliser practice but whether I can afford not to change.

The corner stone of our company's products can be summarised as:

Balance
:
Plants require 16 elements to be present at optimal levels in order to achieve optimal growth. Addition of just three of these elements is unlikely to be a balanced approach.

Economic Viability: Fertilisers not only have to work they also have to be available to the customer and they have to be able to be applied to the field by modern methods.

Sound Agronomic Practice: Just as there is abundant proof that the continued application of ever higher rates of chemical fertilisers is not the answer, there is also proof that many of the proposed "alternatives" are not the answer either. Our company believes in science and the application of proven scientific method. We encourage our customers to utilise independent soil testing facilities and we will only make recommendations based on sound data.

Quality: We believe that the granulated product that we produce is the best in its class, however we will continue to strive to improve product quality through innovation.

Consistency: We guarantee the analysis of our product.

Company History

Fertico was incorporated to fill what the founders perceived as a growing gap in the Australian fertiliser market. For many years the only commercially viable answer to the needs of plant nutrition were the wholesale addition of chemical fertilisers.

As a grower, if you did not use chemical fertilisers, you simply went out of business due to lack of returns from your land. Mounting evidence led the founders of Fertico to believe that there must be a better, more sustainable alternative. Fertico seeks to make that alternative available to Australian growers.

The company was founded in 1996 and a modern production facility was established in Elizabeth, South Australia. Since that time the company has expanded operations and distribution points are now located in most states of Australia, giving the company truly national distribution.

A team of dedicated distributors is growing daily to service the needs of a broad range of Australian agriculture and provide them with, what we believe is simply a better alternative.

A team of agronomists supports our distributor network providing agronomic advice and product support.

Broad-acre and Horticultural Market

The product range for this market segment includes our reactive phosphate rock products and our range of organic based fertilisers. Typically these products will be a balanced blend of organic/mineral matter and water soluble nutrients. These products are targeted as commercially viable fertilisers for large scale horticulture, cropping, pasture and intensive agriculture. They are competitively priced, they blend and spread effectively and they have been proven to be highly effective in the field. These products provide a true alternative to the addition of 100% chemical fertilisers for the grower that is looking for a better alternative to current practice but is not necessarily looking to become an "organic" grower.

Organic Market

The emerging market for organic produce is, we believe, going to be a continuing trend. We have established a range of high quality fertiliser products that qualify as "organic" inputs, to meet the needs of this market segment. As this industry shakes off its "cottage" associations we will be in a prime position to meet the requirements of an increasingly professional and economics driven industry with a range of high quality spreadable products.

Home Garden Market

The company markets a range of both 100% organic fertilisers (under the Green 'n Gro label) as well as organic-based fertilisers to consumers across the country. Broad reaching distribution has been achieved through supermarket chain stores for smaller retail packages and through garden centres and hardware stores for larger pack sizes. The fertiliser products that we market to the home garden sector are essentially the same as the ones that work so well in commercial agriculture.
